Dear Colleagues,
It gives me great pleasure to extend a very warm South African invitation to you to join us in Cape Town for the 16th International Conference on Emergency Medicine from 18th-21st April 2016. We look forward to hosting you at the world-class Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The theme for the conference is “Emergency Medicine Now: Knowledge, Action and Accountability”. Now more than ever before emergency physicians are exposed to a plethora of medical information especially with the explosion of social media and Free Open Access Medical Education. We have a responsibility going forward to ensure that this information remains of the highest standard and that it’s foundation is firmly based on evidence-based medical practice and principles. Emergency Medicine is a speciality of action, pushing the boundaries and innovation. Many of the sessions and lectures will be based on this concept. With this privilege of providing our patients with the best emergency medical care possible comes the commitment that we also need to be their fiercest advocates and allies. Accountability in the form of clinical governance and patient safety are fundamental components of emergency practice today and in the future.
